GTA 6 platforms: PS5 and Xbox Series X|S confirmed — PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC are not

Published: 2026-07-18 · platforms, official, ps5, xbox

Grand Theft Auto VI is confirmed for exactly two platforms: PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. That is the entire announced list — a current-generation console launch, set in Leonida and dated November 19, 2026. No PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, or PC version has been announced by Rockstar Games or Take-Two. This page lays out the full availability matrix and holds a firm line between what is confirmed and what is merely expected, per our editorial standard.

One sourcing note up front: the platform and date facts here trace to Take-Two’s investor releases, which verify live (tier 1). Rockstar’s own Newswire pre-order post returns a block to automated tools, so where its wording is load-bearing we treat it as index-corroborated across reputable outlets rather than machine-archivable.

The confirmed platforms

Take-Two’s pre-order press release names the platforms in plain language: “PlayStation 5 computer entertainment systems and Xbox Series X|S games and entertainment systems.” The same current-gen pairing appears in the Q2 FY2026 earnings release that carries the November 19, 2026 date. There is no third platform in any official release.

The availability matrix

PlatformStatus
PlayStation 5Confirmed — launch platform
Xbox Series X|SConfirmed — launch platform
PlayStation 4Not announced
Xbox OneNot announced
Nintendo Switch / Switch 2Not announced
PCNot announced

Read the bottom four rows carefully. “Not announced” means no official Rockstar/Take-Two channel has ever listed that platform — it is not the same as “ruled out,” and not the same as “coming.” Rockstar has said nothing about these platforms in either direction, and neither will we.

PlayStation 4 and Xbox One (last-gen) — not announced

Every official release lists current-gen consoles only. GTA VI is being built as a current-generation title, and press coverage such as PowerUp Gaming’s platform explainer notes there is no last-gen listing anywhere. The technical case that PS4/Xbox One are too old to run the game (SSD streaming, memory) is a reasonable inference — but it is press inference, not a Rockstar statement, and we will not upgrade “not announced” to “ruled out” on that basis.

Nintendo Switch / Switch 2 — not announced

No official Rockstar or Take-Two source references any Nintendo platform, for either the original Switch or Switch 2. As GamesRadar’s guide reflects, any “unlikely on that hardware” framing is analyst commentary, not an official word. Nothing has been announced and nothing has been ruled out.

PC — not announced

Rockstar and Take-Two have confirmed only PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. There is no official PC version, date, or window. A later PC port is widely expected by the games press — extrapolated from the pattern where the PC edition of Grand Theft Auto V arrived well after consoles — but expectation is not confirmation. We keep that speculation clearly labeled and off the confirmed ledger; for the full treatment of the “when might PC happen” question, see our dedicated PC release-date rundown.

The cheapest way to play (high level)

Because only two platforms exist, the only two routes to play GTA VI at launch are a PlayStation 5 or an Xbox Series X|S. The price choice is between the Standard Edition at $79.99 and the Ultimate Edition at $99.99 (USD); regional pricing varies by store and currency and is not enumerated here. There is no confirmed cheaper tier — no last-gen SKU, no PC build, and no cloud or handheld version announced that would undercut a current-gen console purchase. WccfTech’s pre-order guide and Dot Esports both index-corroborate the same two-platform, two-edition picture from the official Newswire post.

What is not confirmed

Honesty is the product, so in one place — Rockstar has not announced any of the following, and their absence from every official release is exactly why they sit in the “not announced” column above:

Anywhere this page uses words like “expected,” “widely reported,” or “inference,” you are reading the speculation kind of claim — never treat it as a Rockstar confirmation. The FAQ keeps the short version of what is and isn’t confirmed, with the same sourcing bar.

When this page changes

If Rockstar or Take-Two announces a new platform, a row here flips from “not announced” to a dated confirmation the same day — but only when the word traces to an official channel: Take-Two’s investor news, the Rockstar Newswire, or the official @RockstarGames YouTube. We ignore non-official uploads and “leaked platform list” posts entirely; the tell on a fake is always the wrong channel. Until then, the confirmed answer stays two platforms: PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
