Who is Jason Duval? GTA 6's male co-protagonist, per his official bio
Published: 2026-07-26 · characters, jason, official
Jason Duval is one of Grand Theft Auto VI’s two playable protagonists, a dual lead alongside Lucia Caminos, ahead of the game’s November 19, 2026 release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Per Rockstar’s official profile he is an Army veteran who grew up around grifters and crooks and now works for drug runners in the Leonida Keys. This page walks through what that bio actually says, flags the parts that are press framing rather than a Rockstar statement, and keeps the still-unannounced voice cast where it belongs. Our deep-dive on Lucia Caminos covers the other half of the pair, and the Jason-and-Lucia piece covers them together with the rest of the officially profiled cast.
One sourcing note up front: Jason’s official bio lives on rockstargames.com/VI, which blocks automated archiving, so under our editorial standard that wording is tier-2 — official text, index-corroborated across reputable outlets rather than machine-archivable. The release date, the platforms, and the official pre-order synopsis quoted below are cited to Take-Two’s investor releases, which verify live (tier 1). Where something is read off official trailer frames rather than written by Rockstar, we say so on the line.
Who Jason Duval is, per the official bio
Rockstar’s profile opens on a want, not a résumé: Jason wants an easy life, but things keep getting harder. It then gives him a past. He grew up around grifters and crooks. After a stint in the Army — framed as an attempt to shake off a troubled youth — he ended up in the Leonida Keys doing work for local drug runners, doing what he knows best.
The profile names no crime, no unit, no hometown, and no relatives — a deliberate reticence that mirrors how Rockstar handles Lucia’s unnamed offense. The one relationship it does name is a housing arrangement with Brian Heder, covered in the next section. Because the profile page itself sits behind rockstargames.com’s automated-archiving block, that wording is index-corroborated by reputable coverage of the May 2025 site update, including GamesRadar+‘s report on the protagonists’ full names and backstories, GameSpot’s character round-up, and The Game Post’s reproduction of the full profile text, against the Wayback capture of rockstargames.com/VI from May 6, 2025. Wikipedia’s overview records the same thing about the update itself: roughly 70 screenshots plus character and location descriptions, shipped alongside Trailer 2.
Where Jason lives, and who he owes
The bio’s one concrete relationship is a landlord. Jason lives rent-free at one of Brian Heder’s properties in exchange for occasional muscle work. That is the only obligation the profile names, and it ties his housing directly to Heder’s business.
Heder’s own official profile fills in the other side. He is a classic drug runner from the golden age of smuggling in the Keys, still moving product through his boat yard while living quietly with his third wife, Lori. Rockstar’s place page for the Leonida Keys — the game’s take on the Florida Keys, officially tagged “Gateway to Paradise” — describes a laid-back tropical archipelago where the dress code is casual and the bars are loaded, and that place-page wording is index-corroborated by IGN’s Trailer 2 coverage. Life there isn’t flashy, but it’s easy, which is a pointed setting for a man whose bio says he wants an easy life and isn’t getting one.
The third confirmed member of that circle is Cal Hampton, whose profile makes him Jason’s friend and a fellow associate of Heder’s: a homebody who feels safest at home, eavesdropping on Coast Guard radio chatter with a few beers. Those two ties — Heder as landlord and employer, Cal as friend — are the only officially stated relationships Jason has outside Lucia. The wider structure of that cluster is the subject of our companion piece on the gangs and crews of Leonida, and the profile wording above is index-corroborated by outlets including Dexerto’s confirmed-characters list and VGC’s coverage of the cast reveal.
Jason in the trailers
Jason has been in the marketing since day one, and the two official trailers are the only official footage of him released so far. Both are on the @RockstarGames channel; anything elsewhere is not official.
Trailer 1 (December 4, 2023) revealed the title, the Vice City / Leonida setting, and the two protagonists as a pair — but not their full names. (A dating footnote we keep consistently: it went out on December 4 after leaking a day ahead of its scheduled December 5 premiere, so you will see both dates cited. See our trailers timeline.)
Trailer 2 (May 6, 2025) is where “Jason Duval” became a name. It landed alongside the website update that published his profile, and it features the Keys prominently — including a long over-ocean highway bridge and a lighthouse, neither officially named. Jason appears throughout it, including the bank-heist sequence in skull masks, as GameSpot’s Trailer 2 breakdown documents. The trailer also shows him arriving at the Leonida Penitentiary to reunite with Lucia on her release.
One tier-3 flag on the heist material. Jason and Lucia appear alongside Raul Bautista in Trailer 2 breakdowns, and the target bank’s “Sinfrontera National Bank” name comes from trailer signage — not from any written Rockstar bio. Raul’s profile describes a seasoned bank robber hunting talent willing to take the biggest risks, and stops there. No official source states the Jason/Lucia/Raul crew connection, so treat both the crew link and the bank name as read off trailer frames, which is not the same as stated.
Jason and Lucia: what the official synopsis actually says
The pre-order synopsis, which verifies live on Take-Two’s investor site, is the most authoritative sentence anyone has about the pair:
Jason and Lucia have always known the deck is stacked against them. But when an easy score goes wrong, they find themselves on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America, in the middle of a criminal conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonida — forced to rely on each other more than ever if they want to make it out alive.
Read it closely, because the exact wording matters. Rockstar says the two are “forced to rely on each other.” It does not call them a couple, and it does not call them Bonnie and Clyde. That Bonnie-and-Clyde comparison is a press and critical read — widely drawn, including in outlet write-ups of the profiles — so we treat it as a comparison rather than a label.
The same care applies to billing. The synopsis opens “Jason and Lucia.” You will nonetheless see him described as the “real” or “primary” lead. Rockstar has framed the two as a dual lead and has never designated either one as the main protagonist; any ranking of them is press reading, not an official statement. Note also what is absent in the other direction: Lucia’s own bio never mentions Jason, and Jason’s never mentions Lucia. Everything binding them is in the trailers and the synopsis, not in the character profiles.
Jason in the pre-order reveal
Outside the bio and the trailers, Jason turns up in one more piece of official material: the Ultimate Edition contents from the June 24, 2026 pre-order announcement, where the Girardi ES9 appears as his personalized pistol, an exclusive engraved variant. The Hawk & Little Morgan Revolvers in the same list are a his-and-hers matched pair for Jason and Lucia. Both come from Rockstar’s Newswire pre-order post, which returns a block to automated tools, so the weapon list is index-corroborated by Kotaku’s Ultimate Edition rundown; the editions and pricing themselves verify live via Take-Two’s pre-order release, which describes the $99.99 Ultimate Edition as premium vehicles, weapons, and apparel “across Jason and Lucia’s story.”
What is not confirmed
In one place, so the caveats aren’t buried:
- Voice actor — not announced. Neither Rockstar Games nor Take-Two has named a voice actor for Jason, and Rockstar’s long-standing pattern is to reveal the cast in the launch-day credits. Every name in circulation is unverified speculation: the most-circulated fan pick is Cole Hauser, and NME has catalogued the wider rumor mill — Gregory Connors, Jake Silbermann, Dylan Rourke — along with denials from other named actors. None of it traces to an official source.
- His specific criminal history — not detailed. The bio says he grew up around grifters and crooks and does work for drug runners. It names no offense, no arrest, and no conviction, and Rockstar has said nothing further.
- His Army service — one clause, no specifics. A stint in the Army is the whole of it: no unit, no rank, no dates, no length of service, and no deployment.
- Whether Jason or Lucia is the “main” protagonist — not stated. Rockstar has framed them as a dual lead. Any “Jason is the real lead” claim is press reading from billing order, not official.
- “Bonnie and Clyde” — a press comparison, not the official synopsis wording. The synopsis says they are “forced to rely on each other.”
- The Sinfrontera bank and the Raul crew link — trailer-derived (tier-3), read off official Trailer 2 imagery and signage, not written in any bio.
- Platforms — PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only. No PC, PS4, Xbox One, or Nintendo Switch version has been announced; do not read the absence of a platform here as a plan. See GTA 6 on PC.
- No Trailer 3 exists as of July 26, 2026. Fake “Trailer 3” uploads circulate; the tell is always that the channel is not @RockstarGames.
When Rockstar names Jason’s voice actor, releases a third trailer, or updates his official bio, this page and his database entry update the same day, with sources attached. The short version lives in the FAQ, held to the same sourcing bar.
